On Air DJs

JAKE THE RIPPER

Music is a universal language that brings us together. METAL music in particular has always been my favorite, it’s a massive library of a genre with a die-hard cult following and welcoming community. I come from San Antonio, TX, which was once nicknamed “The Heavy Metal Capital of World” back in the 1980’s so I guess METAL is in my heritage. Prior to creating the vision for OVERKILL RADIO, I was a student at San Antonio College and the host of KSYM 90.1 FM’s “Thursday Night Metal Show”. From playing hundreds of killer tunes, to interviewing dozens of musicians, to having bands play live on the air, I did it all for over 3 years every week on that 3 hour show! It was the experience of a lifetime raising hell on the college airwaves in San Antonio, Texas! In addition, I was also the Assistant Program Director at KSYM. One of the wonderful things about the music industry is getting to meet and network with a lot of people, which led to the founding of this radio station. Post graduation, after some encouragement from friends, musicians, and listeners, I took on the responsibility to bring talented, like-minded DJs together to create a new platform for METAL music! It was a no-brainer to create a supergroup of  radio DJs from across the nation under one radio station! Over the years I also acquired a taste for the Synthwave music genre, which is our overnight music format! Synthwave is a new underground music genre that packs all the originality and cult status of Heavy Metal music! What's even bizarre is that alot of metal fans are into synthwave as well. I'm proud of what OVERKILL RADIO™ has become, in spirit it has college radio vibes, but now we're taking it national!

Favorite Bands: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Pantera, Motörhead, Misfits, Sodom, Razor, Venom, Midnight, Eternal Champion, Visigoth, Unto Others, Hällas, Acid Bath, Down, Pentagram, Woods of Ypres, Children of Bodom.

THE SAW

What’s going on Butcher Crew?! It’s ya girl, your Master Butcher, The Saw; and I am here to deliver the beatings on OVERKILL RADIO! Metal isn’t a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. I was born and raised on metal. My parents met in a mosh pit and my brothers and cousin have been in local bands since I was a little girl. Metal has always been there for me. My love for metal – and the heavier realm of the genre – grew stronger when I went to the Carolina Rebellion at 14, and my first Warped Tour (solo) at 16. My radio personality formed when I attended NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Before I left for college, my dad told me that NC State had a radio station called WKNC 88.1 and that they played metal. Once I was on campus, I applied to become a DJ and that is when The Saw was born! The name The Saw comes from the song, “The Saw Is The Law,” by Whitechapel – one of my favorite bands. Soon thereafter, my on-air time evolved into an award-winning radio show – The Saw’s Butcher Shop® – where you are pummeled with the heaviest metal on the planet.  My show is divided into different segments, aptly named to describe the brutally terrifying House of Horrors that it is. Within these segments, the slaughter plays-out in different genres (metalcore, hardcore, death metal, deathcore, slam, and black metal, etc.). When it’s all over but the cryin’, The Saw’s Butcher Shop will leave you hanging from a meat hook, begging to be six feet deep. And best of all, you can never get away! There is no exit!! You are forever stuck in The Saw’s Butcher Shop. How exciting! I look forward to seeing you in my Butcher Shop real soon. Get ready and be prepared, you are in for a long and painful ride.

Favorite Bands: Justice For The Damned, Boundaries, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Frozen Soul, Abominable Putridity, A Wake in Providence, Whitechapel, Devourment, and Benighted.

From the forests of Kashyyyk to the streets of Newark, I've brought the metal to the masses, and now, I'm bringing the metal to OVERKILL RADIO! I was born and raised on rock and roll, learning about local legends like The Boss, Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny before learning about math (I still can't grasp that math thing). Everything changed when I got to high school and was given a CD by a new friend. Bands like Crown the Empire, The Wonder Years, and Pierce the Veil entered my playlists, and the next thing I knew, I was at my first Warped Tour, and a few months later, my first concert. It was at this concert that my already rapidly expanding music bubble was shattered by a little band called Beartooth, fresh off the release of their debut album Disgusting. Since then, the riffs only got heavier. I dove into the roots of metal, even ending up on the barricade for Slayer and Metallica, I got strange with E-Town Concrete and Clutch, I got my head smashed in to Knocked Loose and Lamb of God, and kept my eyes of up and comers like Tetrarch and Saul. All of this landed me at Seton Hall's WSOU 89.5 FM., The loudest and heaviest college radio station this side of the galaxy! When your station was protested by a group of extremely conservative Catholics, only then can you claim that title. While at WSOU, I was the Music Director for two years straight, with another year as the Assistant Music Director and even the Interim Programming Director the summer after I graduated. Now, I'm landing the Falcon and joining OVERKILL RADIO™, and I'm dusting off my show Metal To The Core for the occasion! So buckle the fuckle up and get ready to punch it, because when I'm in the driver's seat, it's going to get crazy!

Favorite Bands: Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Knocked Loose, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Ice Nine Kills, Thy Art Is Murder, Parkway Drive, Crown the Empire, Beartooth, Amon Amarth, System of A Down, Chelsea Grin, Rammstein, Saul, Bad Omens.

The Eagle & DJ Tay

The Eagle & DJ Tay.JPG

After spending a lot of time at hardcore shows in cafes, parks, and backyards, Liam and Tayla decided to use their platform to shine light on the world’s greatest and underground bands. The show looks to move outside the host's home state of New Jersey and play music from any corner of the globe where music is made.

This is Tayla (DJ Tay)! Music is my absolute favorite thing in the world and you can almost always find me at a concert. I am also a lover of all things spooky and Halloween. The Metal and Alternative genres have specifically been a huge part of my life. At the age of two, I asked my dad to burn “All the Small Things” by Blink-182 on a C.D. and made my parents play it EVERYWHERE we went. Since then, my taste in music has grown and certainly has gotten much heavier, but I am true to my roots at the same time. Metal has been more than just a type of music to me; it has become a community where I know I can have fun, be supported and make amazing friends along the way. As a former DJ as well as Promotions Director and Social Media Manager at Seton Hall University’s WSOU 89.5 FM, I was able to dive even deeper into that community and I am never going to turn back. I am so excited to join the OVERKILL RADIO™ team and to turn it up to 11 with you!

Favorite Bands: Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Arch Enemy, Ice Nine Kills, System of A Down, Misfits, Type O Negative, Rob Zombie, Blink-182, Neck Deep, Rancid, Descendants, The Distillers, Neck Deep, Blink-182, Nirvana, Silence Equals Death, Ghostwreck, Knocked Loose, Hatebreed…can I just keep writing forever?

Liam, otherwise known as The Eagle, here! I have been into heavy metal for as long as I can remember. My first memory of music was listening to Back in Black by AC/DC in about 3rd or 4th grade. After that I got into Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The Clash, Ramones, and all the punk and metal classics. Fast forward to 2022 and I have been lucky enough to work at or with several radio stations and promotions companies. Whether it be a small college station like WSOU FM or interning for Sirius XM, I give it my all to bring heavy metal to the masses! My biggest passion is music so I cannot wait to add something crazy to the online airwaves!

Favorite Bands: Misfits, Black Flag, Judas Priest, Behemoth, Mudvayne, Agnostic Front, Ghostwreck, Silence Equals Death

Daniel has been listening to heavy metal since the third grade. He plays guitar and has been a past member of Swamp Wolf and Zombie Religion and is currently writing, recording, and performing with power metal band, Ice Sword. You can find Daniel getting buff as hell while exploring realms as Corpsehammer on Twitch TV!

Jonathan has been listening to all kinds of music for over three decades and has listened to everything from 90’s country to sound art to synthwave to stoner doom. He enjoys composing music and has played a little bit of everything ranging from jazz combos, big band, live looping, jam sessions, and shred guitars+synths. After a many-year hiatus of being a research scientist for the corporate world, he’s picking up his axe and synths once more. In his free time, he enjoys hanging with his wolf pack, picking up heavy things, and riding/racing motorcycles off road.
